About us

Welcome to Neighbourhood Trust

Neighbourhood Trust (NHT) was established in 1999 by the people of St Albans Baptist Church (SABC) to enrich the lives of the immediate community and further afield. NHT is a Christian-based charitable trust governed by a Board of Trustees.  The current Trustees are Hugh Swaney (Chair), Graham Collinswood (Secretary), Gabriele Watson (Treasurer), John Alpe, Kaye Hills, Alan Bastin, Tim Burton and Toni Lindo.

NHT's vision is to identify and respond to the needs in the community of North St Albans/Mairehau not being met by other groups. The Trust uses a strengths-based approach to community development, believing each person has God-given potential, seeking to bring this out and enhance the resources existing in the community.

The Trust works mainly with families and the elderly, providing a wide range of activities and services focussed on empowering and strengthening the community. The Trust offers a hand-up, not a hand-out.

NHT works with other groups and organisations to benefit the community.  It participates in various events and is represented at inter-agency meetings within the Shirley/Papanui Ward.

The Trust is supported by grants from: Christchurch City Council, Shirley/Papanui Community Board, Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board, Ministry of Social Development, Canterbury Community Trust, COGS, NZ Lotteries, St Albans Baptist Church, The Ministry of Youth Development, Perry Foundation, The Southern Trust, Pub Charity, The Boulcott Fund, Eureka Trust, John Ilott Trust, United Way, Archer Memorial Trust, David and Noelene Diggs Foundation, Dove Charitable Trust and the Tindall Foundation.  NHT was one of ten Canterbury agencies to receive funding from the Community Response Fund to extend services to meet demand. Several businesses also support the work of the Trust - thanks to McGrafix.com, Reach Out Press, Brumby's Edgeware, Veges Direct, and 2020 After School Tutoring for their assistance.
