About us

Welcome to Neighbourhood Trust

.

Let's work together to re-build our community. Every person counts and everyone has something to offer.

Let's hope for a better year in 2012 as we start to rebuild our communities.

The drop-in lunches start again, 1st Wednesday of the month, midday, every month from February 2012. Gold coin & everyone welcome.

Neighbourhood Trust (NHT) was established in 1999 by the people of St Albans Baptist Church (SABC) to enrich the lives of the immediate community and further afield. NHT is a Christian-based charitable trust governed by a Board of Trustees.  The current Trustees are Hugh Swaney (Chair), Graham Collinswood (Secretary), Gabriele Watson (Treasurer), John Alpe (seconded), Kaye Hills, Alan Bastin, Tim Burton, Toni Lindo and Carole Evans.

NHT's vision is to identify and respond to the needs in the community of North St Albans/Mairehau not being met by other groups. The Trust uses a strengths-based approach to community development, believing each person has God-given potential, seeking to bring this out and enhance the resources existing in the community.

The Trust works mainly with families and the elderly, providing a wide range of activities and services focussed on empowering and strengthening the community. The Trust offers a hand-up, not a hand-out.

NHT works with other groups and organisations to benefit the community.  It participates in various events and is represented at inter-agency meetings within the Shirley/Papanui Ward.

The Trust is supported by grants from: Christchurch City Council, Shirley/Papanui Community Board, Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board, Ministry of Social Development, Canterbury Community Trust, COGS, NZ Lotteries, St Albans Baptist Church, The Ministry of Youth Development, The Southern Trust, Pub Charity, The Boulcott Fund, John Ilott Trust, United Way, Archer Memorial Trust, David and Noelene Diggs Foundation, Dove Charitable Trust, Phyllis Campion Trust, The Strathlachlan Fund, Blogg Charitable Trust and the Tindall Foundation.  NHT was one of ten Canterbury agencies to receive funding from the Community Response Fund to extend services to meet demand. Several businesses also support the work of the Trust - thanks to BP Oil New Zealand Limited, Wainoni Pak'n'Save, McGrafix.com, Reach Out Press, Veges Direct, AMI, 2020 After School Tutoring, Maggi and Whittakers Chocolate for their assistance.

Programmes are kept at low costs through grants and donations. Help us to continue to help our community. DONATIONS over $5 are tax deductible. To make a donation by internet banking, please deposit into our account:
